Brief info on the project
More and more children and adolescents on the autism spectrum are now attending mainstream schools. Autism-specific characteristics in social interaction often lead to minor irritations or even greater misunderstandings in everyday school life. In educational practice, there is therefore an urgent need for practical knowledge on how these students can successfully participate in both academic and social learning.
Our study, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), addresses this need by examining interactions with autistic students in inclusive settings. The aim of the study is to use video recordings and multimodal interaction analysis to gain a deeper understanding of the conditions that foster, as well as the obstacles that hinder, peer and classroom interactions at school. The insights gained will contribute to the development of pedagogical and language-education measures to promote the participation of children and adolescents on the autism spectrum and will, in the long term, enrich teacher education.
We would like to sincerely thank all those involved—especially the children and adolescents as well as the teachers—for their participation in the study!
